Sustainable Development
A well conserved coastline
El Carabassi, one of Elche’s six beaches Elche’s municipal district has an extensive seafront made up of 9km of fine sandy beaches and clear waters, with every kind of service imaginable, and is considered to be one of the least built-up areas on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. This conservation means that the coastal zone maintains spaces of high ecological value, forming a landscape of dunes and pine forests which extends along the coast between the beaches of L’Altet, Arenales del Sol, El Carabassi, El Pinet, la Marina d’Elx and Les Pesqueres-Rebollo.
The ecological richness of Elche’s beaches is an investment in the futureWith the aim of assuring sustainable development in the area, urban planning is contemplating the protection of seafronts from urbanisation, as well as undertaking important landscape restoration and the promotion of selective real estate products close to existing population nuclei, which make sustainable development possible. Moreover, to favour the growth of the tourist sector, the General Plan is anticipating a rise in leisure demands and is contemplating the reservation of ample spaces for the building of tourist facilities which will increase the existing offer in the local area.
Assuring the conservation of the ecological richness of Elche’s beaches is a future investment, considered to be the key to capturing a fully expanding tourist sector which seeks to enjoy nature in moments of leisure.
