The AP-7 motorway, a fundamental axis in Elche’s communications
The AP-7 Mediterranean motorway is a high capacity road and guarantees effective communication between Elche (a city with an economy based on exportation and increasingly more tourism) and the rest of the Mediterranean Riviera, at the same time providing a link to the rest of Europe.
The Mediterranean motorway guarantees links between Elche and Europe As well as the AP-7, the Mediterranean Motorway provides an inland link between Elche and Valencia, two cities which are strongly united by social and economic ties. Towards the south the Alicante-Cartagena motorway (A-37) allows a fast connection with this industrial city which has an important commercial port. The conversion into a motorway of the Camino Castilla road has greatly improved connections with the motorway to Madrid.
In order to improve urban communication a series of ring roads go around the city and help to improve internal traffic flow.
The communications network allows for a better flow of trafficIn addition, other interurban roads improve communication between Elche and neighbouring towns: the opening of the road Vía Parque, which reduces journey times between Elche and Alicante and also provides rapid access to Elche Parque Industrial and Institución Ferial Alicantina and L’Altet airport. This means a great step forward in bringing the two cities closer together with a social and economic relationship which becomes smoother every day. The widening of the N-340 (Elche-Crevillente), already under construction, will ease traffic congestion in this area of the city which is in expansion. The conversion into a dual carriageway of the road leading to the Medio Vinalopó area, the widening of the road towards the coast that joins the N-332 in the vecinity of La Marina, as well as a new road which will improve the heavy flow of traffic to the touristy coastal town of Santa Pola, all represent the extensive modernisation of the communication network and the design of the territorial model.
