Railway and Ports
Elche is located midway along the railway line which links Alicante and Murcia. Very frequent journeys allow a fluid connection and answer communication needs, both for tourists and visitors as well as meeting the high demand of the citizens of Elche and the surrounding area.
The AVE Madrid-Alicante (high speed train), will have a stop in Elche on its Mediterranean route The railway crosses the city by means of an underground route, which has allowed its integration into the urban landscape. There are two passenger stations within the city, a stop in the district of Torrellano and a goods station which is well connected to industrial production centres.
The project for the construction of future High Speed lines (AVE) Alicante-Madrid and corredor del Mediterráneo (Mediterranean racer) is considering situating a stop in Elche. This would significantly reinforce communication possibilities to and from our city.
Alicante port has a terminal for cruise ships To complete the communication network, Alicante port, at barely 20 kilometres from the city and very close to Elche Parque Industrial, makes the transit of goods and passengers by sea easier. Its modern facilities have allowed for a transit of over 3.5 million tonnes of goods, and an influx of close to 300,000 passengers, in the last few years.
Moreover, as from 2006, the companies of Elche have at their disposition the first transatlantic container ship which will allow them to send their goods directly to the United States and Asia.
Alicante’s Port Authorities have an Investment Plan with economic resources topping 60 million Euros, for the funding of facilities in the seaport, among other projects: a logistic activity area, a new commercial dock, a modern cruise ship terminal, a fishing dock and the extension of the container ship terminal, etc. These are all aimed at making the port of Alicante one of the most important Mediterranean ports.
The port is also home to Real Club de Regatas and Alicante sports marina, with over 1,500 moorings for sports and leisure boats. Moreover, it boasts two modern leisure zones which provide areas for expansion, shopping and entertainment for its users and visitors.
